What to Bring to the Maryland Insurance Exam
At a Prometric test center you essentially bring valid ID and yourself—everything else goes in a locker. Your name on the ID must match your registration exactly, and you should arrive 30 minutes early. Remote ProProctor exams follow a different checklist (computer, webcam, quiet room).
Your ID is the only required item
Prometric requires one valid, non-expired, U.S. government-issued identification that includes both a photograph and your signature. If your primary ID is missing either element, bring a secondary government-issued ID that supplies it.
Name must match registration exactly
The name on your ID must match the name on your Prometric profile and appointment confirmation—including middle names or suffixes you used when scheduling. A mismatch can prevent check-in and may be treated as a missed appointment (full fee to reschedule).
Eat before you arrive
Food and drinks are not allowed in the testing room. Maryland insurance exams at test centers do not include scheduled breaks; if you take an unscheduled break, the clock keeps running.

Arrive early
Prometric requires you to arrive 30 minutes before your scheduled start time for check-in, ID verification, and security screening. Arriving late can count as a missed appointment—you may forfeit your exam fee and need to pay again to reschedule.
Bring to the test center
Valid government-issued photo ID with signature
Must be non-expired and issued by the U.S. government. The name must match your Prometric registration and confirmation exactly (including middle name or suffix if you used them when scheduling).
Secondary ID (only if needed)
If your primary ID lacks a photo or signature, bring a second valid ID that supplies what is missing. Contact Prometric before exam day if you cannot meet standard ID rules.
Appointment confirmation
Bring a printed confirmation or the confirmation number. Your phone will be stored in a locker—not kept with you during the test.
Comfortable, layered clothing
Test room temperature varies. Wedding and engagement rings are typically allowed; most other jewelry is not permitted in the testing area.
Eyeglasses (if you wear them)
Usually permitted after inspection. Sunglasses and non-prescription tinted lenses are not allowed while testing.
IDs commonly accepted (must include photo + signature)
- Driver's license (U.S. state)
- State-issued identification card
- U.S. passport or passport card
- U.S. military ID (active duty, retired, or dependent where applicable)
- Other valid, non-expired U.S. government-issued ID with photo and signature
Leave in the locker (not in the testing room)
Prometric provides lockers. Unauthorized items in the testing area can end your exam.
- Cell phones, smartwatches, and all electronic devices
- Bags, backpacks, purses, briefcases, and wallets
- Notes, books, study materials, pens, and pencils
- Food and drinks (including water in the testing room)
- Watches (including digital/analog), cameras, and recording devices
- Tablets, laptops, headphones, and music players
- Hats and head coverings (except for documented religious purposes)
- Most jewelry (other than wedding/engagement rings and religious items)
Remote proctor (ProProctor) — different checklist
If you scheduled a remote exam instead of a test center, you need a secure setup—not a locker. Complete Prometric's system check before exam day.
- Desktop or laptop computer (tablets prohibited per Prometric)
- Working webcam, microphone, and stable internet
- Same government-issued photo ID shown on camera at check-in
- Private, quiet room meeting ProProctor environment rules
- ProProctor app installed and system check completed before exam day

During the exam
Maryland insurance exams at test centers do not include scheduled breaks; unscheduled breaks are allowed but the timer keeps running and you must pass security again when you return.
You receive pass/fail results immediately after finishing at the test center. Need ADA accommodations or ESL extra time? Arrange through Prometric before scheduling—not on exam day.
